Week 15: Digital Footprint

Image
When I think about my digital footprint I never thought about it being that big but it definitely is. I use social media every day whether that be sending emails or texts to check what other people are up to. Everything I do is kept track of and it can sound scary sometimes when you really think about it. I spend around probably half my day using technology so there definitely is a lot of information that has been built up. I use a few different social media websites but use some definitely more than others.  Instagram was probably one of the first social media that I used because I loved to see what others were doing and let them know what interesting stuff was going on in my life. But as I grew older I didn’t seem to care about getting a lot of likes and also I didn’t care to see someone on a great vacation while I was in school. It is definitely a great application but I care more now about living my life instead of worrying about what others are doing with theirs.  Snapchat is

Week 13 EOTO

After listening to group 2 present I found that mainstream media was very fascinating to me. Mainstream media is one is really how everyone gets their daily information whether that be from a newspaper or tv. Considering we tend to see this mainstream media every day it has a huge impact on how we live our lives. A lot of media can be very biased so it’s important to what you should listen to and believe. There are different news stations that are very biased in what they believe and talk about so it’s important to understand which ones are before you listen to them. If you tend to maybe listen to Fox News a lot and go over to watch CNN it might sound very different to what you have listened to on Fox News. And the reason for that is because both these news stations have very different opinions. A lot of the mainstream media only cares about getting good ratings even if they are not putting out the best content. Mainstream media can be a huge positive for people that want to be able

Week: 7 News Deserts EOTO

Image
News deserts are becoming more popular now a day since there are so many people using online technology to get their news. A new dessert is a community that has discontinued using daily newspapers. Over the last 15 years, there has been a huge loss of about 35 billion dollars in ad revenue for newspapers. This has had a huge impact on local newspaper outlets considers 2,000 of them closed. Growing up I have noticed this quite often as when I was younger I always remember my dad reading the daily news and overtime that has slowly stopped. He went from getting all of his news from newspapers to just watching the tv or using his for this information. And I feel that most people have done the same as it is just easier to watch the news than to read about it. Also, I can now just wake up open my phone, and see everything that is going on in the world in seconds. Even though in my option I see electronic news as being more efficient it also can work as a disadvantage. The problem with th

After watching Juan Enriquez Ted talk I started to feel like I have heard something similar to it in the past. It reminded me of what my dad used to tell me and that was if you put something online it stays there. He always told me to be careful about what I post because it could affect my future. Juan talked about how tattoos were just like the internet as they both tell a story about who you are as a person. The internet is just like Juan said an “electronic tattoo” that you can’t get rid of. Another great thing he brought up was facial recognition which I even use myself and would have never thought twice about how powerful it could be. If someone were to use it against me and scan my face they could get all my records and information. Also, companies like Google, Facebook, Instagram, and more are finding out so much about us and what we like by tracking our history and what we are interested in. The internet is finding out more and more about us every time we enter it. It importa

Tv Diffusion Theory

Image
For the diffusion of innovations, I looked into the flatscreen tv. Flatscreen TVs are very relevant in most people’s homes nowadays but at one point it wasn’t like that. In 1964 the flatscreen was invented at the University of Illinois which would be understood as the inventor’s stage. From there in 1990 this is when the flatscreen TVs would really become popular and have a huge increase in market sales. During this time people that wanted great clarity and picture in their TVs would purchase this product also they began to be less bulky which was nice. But even though some of the people that were buying these TVs most could not because of the price. In 1997 a flat screen tv could go for around $3,821 or even more which was definitely a huge price to pay compared to today. I would say going into 2012 this was when most of the early majority were purchasing TVs or already had one. Tvs were still very expensive during this time costing around $2,680 for a 55-inch flatscreen which was d

Podcast EOTO

I have always really enjoyed listening to podcasts so when we were assigned this project I knew I wanted to talk about the history of podcasts. It all started in 2004 by Adam Curry and Dave Winer who developed the software. He made a program that allowed them to download the podcast onto their iPods. This was very beneficial to them and by the next year, there were a lot of companies that started to recognize them and saw how much potential podcasting could be. One of the biggest companies that recognized them was Apple and they put out their iTunes 4.9 update which allowed people to listen to podcasts. Podcast development started to continue to grow and became a great source of information throughout the years. Moving all the way to 2013 Apple said that they had 1 billion podcast subscriptions which is a very impressive number. Podcasting continues to keep growing and as of 2019, there had been around 90 million Americans were listening to podcasts daily and 165 million people

Supreme Court

Image
The Supreme Court (SCOTUS) was established by the Constitution as an essential part of the checks and balances system. It is the highest court in the country and the head of the judicial branch of government (1). The Supreme Court has the responsibility of ruling on the constitutionality of laws passed by Congress. It also has the power to check on the other two branches of government, the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch (2). The Court holds the power of judicial review, the ability to invalidate a statute for violating a provision of the Constitution. (3).  When first established, the Supreme Court judges were also responsible for serving on circuit courts in the thirteen states. There are presently nine Supreme Court justices, which has been a consistent number since 1869. With all the current buzz about the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett and the idea of Democrats, in retaliation, packing the court, I decided to take a look to see if this was an issue in the past. Th
